Swedish royal pair in WSKS
2011-05-11
On 4-6 May, the King of Sweden Carl XVI Gustaf and his wife, Queen Sylvia paid state visit to Poland. On 5 May, at 11 AM, they opened the Days of Swedish Language at the Warsaw School of Social Sciences and Humanities (SWPS). The Queen gave a speech to the guests of the conference - the students, lecturers and several celebrated Swedish crime writers: Mari Jungstedt, Karin Wahlberg and Rolf Almström. Their Royal Highnesses found some time to talk face-to-face to the students and share the memories of their youths with them. The royal guests were accompanied by about five bodyguards in the parade uniforms of the Swedish army.
The main topic of the conference was a crime novel - one of the most popular literary genres in Sweden. The participants discussed such questions like the depictions of the police in the crime stories or the general image of Scandinavia in such a literature in relation to the myths and stereotypes concerning that region. The fans of crime fiction had a chance to speak to their favorite authors and get their books signed.
Swedish royal pair visited Warsaw, Wrocław and Świdnica. The most important element of the visit was signing a declaration of political cooperation between the two states by the King and the Polish President. The King and Queen were accompanied by the ministers of foreign affairs, enterprises and infrastructure as well as the delegation of business managers from various sectors. Economy is mentioned as one of the most important topics of the visit and both sides declare the will to develop stronger business ties.
